The stats on education for Indigenous girls in Guatemala speak for themselves:
Less than 1% of indigenous girls attend college and less than half of them graduate.
For the last 4 years, my husband, Felipe, and I have been able to sponsor a girl’s education in Guatemala through the amazing programs of She’s the First and Starfish.
Through their innovative whole-girl approach, Starfish helps to unlock the talent and potential of the next generation of female leaders in Guatemala.
After visiting the region a few years ago, we fell in love with the program, the girls, and the powerful potential to make meaningful change in a girl’s life. For that reason and so many others, I'm thrilled to announce that for the first time, this November, we're inviting a small group of like-minded changemakers to join us in Guatemala and engage in a grassroots approach to female empowerment and entrepreneurship.
During this 7-day experience, you will have the chance to connect with successful business leaders and entrepreneurs and learn from the resilient teen girls in the Starfish Program. This retreat is specifically for entrepreneurs and business people who are interested in media representation and empowerment. Your week in Guatemala will be the perfect combination of networking events, home visits, and some time spent in nearby villages known for their handwoven textiles and exquisite artisanal goods.
Plus you'll have a chance to speak at and participate in a first of it's kind event in Guatemala City:
The Summit on Media Representation and Self-Esteem taking place Nov. 29th at the Westin Hotel. The Summit will focus on the how media representation can impact the self-esteem of girls, a conversation that's becoming more prominent in the Guatemalan business community.
We can't wait to share with you the beauty, the wonder, and the empowerment that's possible.
