Selena Davant

Meet Selena Davant

I’m a creator. I turn challenges into creative and conceptual solutions for brands, people and myself. From design to photography, I translate the essence of complex messaging into visual stories and experiences. I live for creativity, fostering new perspectives and connecting people. And I love to feed my curiosity.

Her Passion:

After experiencing the most unexpected and painful breakup, I made the choice to be happy, to break through sadness, and to fall in love with myself. That’s when Smile A Day (my passion project) was born – a look into the richness of life through the lens of a smile. It’s my decision, my action. My way to slap sadness out of my sight.

For the past year, I’ve been going out of my comfort zone to unlock my full potential. Thanks to Smile A Day demanding me to do more,  I’ve been traveling into different communities to capture smiling portraits and collect the answer to a simple, yet personal question, “What makes you happy and why?” from people I meet. Each portrait I take is shared daily on social media platforms as a way to journal and gather all my sources in a limitless space.

My project has been moving forward and growing pretty quickly. I’m proud to say that I’ve successfully completed my initial goal of capturing 365 portraits in 365 days. Today, Smile A Day reaches over 5,000 people via social media and is still expanding.

Why is it needed in our world?:

The moment we stop and look at things from a different perspective, the moment we CHOOSE to change our attitude toward life, life will start to change it’s attitude towards us, and from that moment, things are never the same. What I learned from this experience (the break up) and creating Smile A Day, is that being happy, even after a challenge or a stressful experience, is a choice. As crazy as it may sounds, I made a choice to have a happy break-up. It gifted me with creating the best project I’ve ever created, Smile A Day. It gifted me with understanding the hidden meaning of SAD. It also means Smile A Day!

What do you hope to accomplish?:

I want to continue discovering unexpected stories and capturing the essence of happiness, a smile, through photography and other communicational mediums. I want do it globally. I want to build up Smile A Day as an experiential event production company. I want to collaborate with more creative people and create a safe community for people to be inspired and motivated to create, and also express themselves fearlessly. There is so much that I hope to accomplish with Smile A Day. I will kindly express it and patiently wait for it to come true, because it will.

How can we help support your passion project?

Please, connect me with photographers, creatives, visionaries, brands, companies, organizations, and/or universities that would be interested in what I do: visual content and experiences that foster new perspectives and connect people to brands in authentic ways, online and offline, while fostering organic interest in the essence of the brand.

Please, support me with expanding my passion project, my brand, my community, Smile A Day,  through providing a donation via Paypal. One of my short-term goal is to raise $1500 to buy photography equipment such as a Sigma 18-35mm 1.8 lens, studio strobe lights, backdrop paper, and more.
