Love & Nudes is a brand that empowers women of colour to cherish the skin they're in. Our goal is to create a global community that connects, celebrates and shares each other's individuality, showcasing the beauty of difference.
We are developing an intimates line as a vehicle to help promote this goal. For the past year-and-a-half we’ve been working with a team to create this line that represents the darker skin tone colours of the world, nude for melanin skin tones. Currently nude in the market is promoted as beige and we want to help change this dialogue, as nude represents any skin tone.
Why is Love and Nudes needed in our world?:
Skin bleaching is $10 billion industry! People of colour are trying to fit into to a beauty standard that whiter skin is better, while risking their health to do so. Institutionalized racism needs to be rejected and creating products like this is a step towards this. The default for products should not only be for European skin. People of colour need to celebrated for who they are as we are also beautiful and strong. People of colour usually live in the shadows of the media and products; we should be positively reflected in these same areas, we need to see people of colour shown in a positive light along with seeing products that look like us. We too need to be highlighted as a normal standard of beauty.
What do you hope to accomplish through Love and Nudes?:
I hope to accomplish a more inclusive connected society. I envision a day where it is normal to see different races in the media. I want there to be as many options for people of colour as there are for anyone else. I want the skin bleaching business to be annihilated!
