Meet Marines Duarte:
I am a proud Latina who believes in dreaming big. A blessed mom of 3 girls + a handsome step son. Co-Founder of M4 Marketing agency and Founder of En Tus Zapatos (In your Shoes) - a digital platform to empower today’s women that wear many shoes (from flats to take the kids to the park, heels to go to work, sneakers to work out to stilettos to go out at night with friends or their significant other) and most importantly remind them to take care of themselves.
Princesas Guerreras is an initiative against gender inequality that seeks to end violence and mistreatment against women and girls (physical, psychological and sexual). It hopes to raise awareness by inspiring thousands of women to speak out and help women who are suffering in silence, letting them know that they are not alone, that they are valuable and that, despite any scars they may bear, they do not have to be victims forever. It encourages parents to raise their daughters in an environment filled with love and confidence.
Why is Princesas Guerreras needed in our world?:
Gender inequality and mistreatment/abuse against women continues to be taboo in our society, especially in Latin America where in many countries, 6 women are killed per day and 4 women are sexually abused every minute (3 out of 4 are young girls). It is an epidemic that keeps on growing and many of us don't give this matter the importance that it deserves. It still happens even in the "best of families" and closer to us than we might realize.
What do you hope to accomplish through Princesas Guerreras?:
By raising our voices and inviting others to do the same we will accomplish:
That women analyze themselves and their lives and realize that the mistreatment that they experience is not normal, it's not right
We hope that women build themselves up and have the courage to not suffer in silence thinking that they are alone or that they deserve it. We want them to raise their voice, to inspire other abused women, to seek help and for them to be able to get out of that situation. We want women to learn to love themselves despite this suffering or trauma and know that they do not stand alone, they have support.
That mothers protect themselves and their children, that they open their eyes and realize that our children learn what they see/experience. We want mothers to be mothers before being women and help thousands of other mothers protect their children from sexual abuse or even from a person we might think is trustworthy. We want men and women to unite to educate their children with values, respect, and equality so that they can be courteous and loving.
