Creativity informs, fuels, and inspires every aspect of my life. Whether it's my 5 years as a blogger, 6 years as a parent, 20+ years as a graphic designer and illustrator, or a lifetime of doodling, I approach everything with the question, "How can I make this more informative, beautiful, meaningful, or fun?"
DesignerDaddy.com is home to my obsessions with pop culture and superheroes, the occasional crafting project, and my adventures being the gay dad of an adopted son. My writing and graphics have also appeared on BuzzFeed, ABC.com, Huffington Post, and Babble. I've been a speaker and panelist at Dad 2.0 Summit, SalonLGBTQ, and BlogathonATX; and I've been honored as a BlogHer Voices of the Year and Iris Award nominee.
Much of my online work has focused on LGBTQ families and our struggle for equality and visibility. And as part of a two-dad family, the way fathers are portrayed in advertising and media — and how they're viewed in society — is of great importance to me.
My dream for many years has been to write and illustrate children's books for kids with same-sex parents — and really, for any family wanting to teach their children about our wonderfully diverse world. While there are some great books that speak to and represent this growing number of families, they are still few and far between.
How You Can Help:
I'm fortunate to have found an agent, written a draft of my first book, and gotten notes from a children's book editor. However, I still need to illustrate (and rewrite) the thing! Cheerleaders, motivators, and butt-kickers are always welcome.
On a practical level, I need an experienced and forward-thinking publisher in order to reach the greatest number of families, schools, and libraries. Having a loyal and engaged audience goes a long way toward securing the best publisher, so please read and subscribe to DesignerDaddy.com, and follow/like/share @DesignerDaddy on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest & Snapchat. I'm also (and most "note"ably) @Superlunchnotes on Instagram.
