Dads 4 Change
I'm the author of “The Parents’ Phrase Book,” and I've spent a decade writing about parenting for countless publications. I co-founded Dads4Change.org to share/encourage social good and empathy for all ages through action and storytelling. I'm part of the Dad 2.0 Summit team, helping to evolve perceptions of modern fatherhood.
While Dads 4 Change and the Dad 2.0 Summit both vie for my passion and time, there is a lot of overlap on that Venn diagram. Right now that shared focus is Dads4Kesem. In July, twelve men, myself included, all of whom have strong, active ties to the online parenting community, will pay our own way to the United Kingdom to walk 84 miles along Hadrian’s Wall. Why that wall? Why these men? Those answers are available on the website, but here’s the important part: Camp Kesem is the only national organization providing support to children touched by a parent's cancer. Their flagship program, free summer camps in over 80 locations, will serve over 6,000 children from coast-to-coast in 2016. Our hope is to raise the $40,000 required to add a new camp to their program to honor the late Oren Miller. Miller was a friend of the entire parent-writer community and a father to two young children. He lost his quick battle to lung cancer in 2015, and his strength throughout continues to inspires us all. In addition to being a brilliant, inspiring writer, Oren is best remembered as a connector of people: He created a community of over 1,000 bloggers, all of them fathers, and many of those on the walk met through his work. We are taking this journey to honor Oren's life, embrace the importance of fatherhood, and raise the funds necessary to open a new Camp Kesem chapter in Oren's name. A camp that Oren’s children will attend.
How You Can Help:
The help we need most is the old-fashioned kind: financial. We are hoping for donations of any amount to help fund the creation and continued maintenance of the new camp. We also have a tier of partnership opportunities available for corporate sponsors—all funds going directly to Camp Kesem. In addition, we would greatly appreciate any messaging, press, and spreading of word that others are able to provide. We are very proud of the powerful platform that the online parenting community has created and earned through many years of sweat, talent, and endless cooperation. We believe Dads4Kesem is something that our community can support with passion and great success.
