I'm a Huffington Post blogger, a TEDx speaker and the founder of Heroic Girls, an organization dedicated to empowering girls by advocating for strong role models for girls in alternative media — particularly comics. I live in Sacramento, CA, with my two superheroic daughters and wife.
We are gearing up for our second annual Heroic Girls Summer Reading Program. We encourage girls and women to read comics then write short reviews on our website. If they read six graphic novels or more, they will receive a certificate and be entered to win autographed comics, graphic novels, posters, toys and more.
The program helps promote a love of reading and continuing education throughout the summer months. And the books provide heroic role models for girls that encourage altruism, perseverance and dreaming big.
How You Can Help:
Last year was our pilot program and we had almost 100 books reviewed and gave out dozens of prizes. The program worked wonderfully, so this year we expect to expand dramatically.
We would like help getting the word out to a wider audience. We also need help soliciting prizes to give to kids (and adults) who complete the program.
